Frequently Asked Questions About Remedial Massage at Meridian Care

Clear Answers to Common Questions About Treatment

If you’re dealing with pain, stiffness or restricted movement, it’s normal to have questions before booking. This FAQ page covers the most common things people want to know — including how remedial massage works, what kinds of problems it can help with, what to expect at your appointment, and how treatment is tailored to your needs. With over 25 years’ experience working with people across Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim and Fermanagh, I provide focused, hands‑on treatment for work‑related strain, everyday muscle tension, sports injuries and long‑standing discomfort. These answers are designed to give clear, practical information so you can decide whether remedial massage is right for you.

Why choose Meridian Care instead of a spa massage?

If you’re looking for a relaxing spa experience, Meridian Care probably isn’t the right fit. My focus is helping people who are in pain, feeling stiff, or struggling with restricted movement.

Every treatment is based on your individual needs rather than following the same routine for everyone. I take the time to understand your symptoms, assess how you’re moving where appropriate, and tailor treatment to help provide pain relief, improve movement and support your recovery.

With over 25 years’ experience in remedial massage, I’ve worked with people experiencing everything from persistent back and neck pain to work‑related muscle tension, sports injuries and everyday aches and pains. My aim is simple: provide effective, hands‑on treatment that helps you move more comfortably and get back to doing the things you enjoy.

What happens at my first appointment?

Your first appointment starts with a conversation. I’ll ask about your symptoms, when they began, what makes them better or worse, your medical history where it’s relevant, and what you hope to achieve from treatment.

Where appropriate, I’ll carry out a brief assessment to help understand what may be contributing to your symptoms before treatment begins. I’ll explain what I recommend and why, answer any questions you have, and make sure you are comfortable with the plan.

No two people receive exactly the same treatment. Every session is adapted to how you’re feeling on the day, and I’ll check in throughout to make sure the pressure and techniques used are appropriate.

What kinds of problems do you commonly help with?

Many people visit Meridian Care because pain or stiffness is affecting their work, sport or everyday life.

Common reasons people book include:

• Back pain • Neck pain • Shoulder pain and tightness • Hip and glute tension • Muscle strains • Sports injuries • Repetitive strain from work • Postural aches from sitting or driving • General muscle tightness and reduced mobility

I regularly work with people dealing with long‑standing muscle tension, movement restrictions and the physical demands of work or sport. This includes farmers, tradespeople, drivers, office workers and sports participants.

Can remedial massage help with back pain?

Back pain is one of the most common reasons people seek treatment at Meridian Care.

While every person and every type of back pain is different, remedial massage may help by addressing areas of muscle tension, stiffness and restricted movement that can contribute to discomfort.

Treatment is tailored to your symptoms rather than following a standard routine. I’ll take the time to understand what you’re experiencing and use appropriate hands‑on techniques to help improve movement, reduce muscle tension and support your recovery.

How much experience do you have?

I’ve been working in remedial massage for over 25 years.

Before opening Meridian Care in Belturbet, I spent many years treating clients in Dublin with a wide range of muscular and movement‑related problems. Over that time, I’ve treated thousands of clients and developed an approach based on experience, assessment and adapting treatment to each individual.

Today I continue to provide one‑to‑one, personalised care for clients travelling from across Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim and Fermanagh.

How many treatments will I need?

There isn’t a single answer because it depends on your symptoms, how long you’ve had them and how your body responds to treatment.

Some people notice improvement after one session, while longer‑term or more complex problems may benefit from a series of treatments.

I don’t believe in recommending appointments you don’t need. My aim is to help you improve as efficiently as possible, review your progress honestly and provide practical advice that helps you stay moving well between visits.

Is treatment painful?

Effective treatment doesn’t have to be painful.

Some techniques, particularly during deep tissue massage or remedial treatment, can feel intense when working on tight muscles or long‑standing tension, but treatment should always stay within a level you can tolerate comfortably.

I’ll always work with your feedback and adjust the pressure when needed. It’s normal to feel some mild soreness afterwards, similar to how muscles can feel after exercise, but many people also notice they move more freely and feel less restricted.

Who do you regularly treat?

I work with people from all walks of life, but many of my clients have physically demanding jobs or active lifestyles.

That includes farmers, tradespeople, healthcare workers, drivers, office workers, sports participants and older adults who want to stay active and independent.

Whether your discomfort has developed through work, sport or everyday life, treatment is always tailored to your individual needs rather than your occupation.

Why do clients travel to Meridian Care?

Many clients travel to Meridian Care from across Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim and Fermanagh because they are looking for experienced, hands‑on remedial massage rather than a standard relaxation massage.

People often appreciate having time to explain what has been happening, receiving treatment tailored specifically to them, and knowing they will receive care from the same experienced therapist every visit.

My approach is straightforward: understand the problem, provide appropriate treatment and help you move and feel better.

What makes remedial massage different?

Remedial massage isn’t about following the same routine every time.

It starts with understanding your symptoms and identifying which muscles and soft tissues may be contributing to your discomfort or restricted movement. Treatment is then adapted to your body rather than following a fixed sequence.

Depending on your needs, treatment may include deep tissue techniques, trigger point therapy, stretching and other hands‑on methods aimed at reducing muscle tension, improving mobility and supporting recovery.

How do I know if remedial massage is right for me?

If pain, stiffness or tight muscles are making work, sport or everyday activities more difficult, remedial massage may be suitable for you.

If you’re unsure, you’re welcome to get in touch before booking. I’m happy to discuss your symptoms and let you know whether treatment is likely to be appropriate.

If I don’t believe massage is the right option for your situation, I’ll tell you honestly and, where appropriate, suggest that you seek advice from another healthcare professional.

My priority is always helping you make the right decision for your health.

Do you offer onsite treatment for workplaces, teams or groups?

Yes. Meridian Care provides onsite treatment for workplaces, sports teams, organised groups and community settings. This service is designed for situations where several people need treatment in the same location, or where travel to the clinic isn’t practical.

Onsite sessions follow the same approach as clinic appointments — focused, assessment‑based treatment tailored to each person’s needs. I bring all required equipment, set up a suitable treatment area and work through individuals one at a time.

Onsite treatment is commonly used by farmers, tradespeople, healthcare staff, office teams, sports clubs and organisations who want to support their members or employees with effective, hands‑on care.

If you’re considering onsite treatment, I’m happy to discuss your group size, location and requirements.
