What to Expect in Your First Massage Therapy Session
If you’re new to massage therapy, here’s a clear, simple guide to help you feel prepared and comfortable for your first appointment at Meridian Care.If you’re comfortable with massage and want something more targeted, deep tissue massage is the better option.
Before the Session
Arrival You’ll come straight into the clinic room — there’s no waiting area or receptionist. Sessions run one‑to‑one and by appointment only.
Assessment First Every session begins with a brief assessment. We’ll discuss your symptoms, what’s tight, what’s restricted, and what’s mechanically driving the problem. This helps tailor the treatment to your needs rather than giving a generic routine.
Comfort Level You undress only to your comfort level. You’ll always be appropriately draped, with only the area being treated exposed.
During the Session
Treatment Approach The work is focused, hands‑on, and aimed at reducing tension, improving movement, and addressing the mechanical cause of your discomfort. Techniques may include deeper pressure where appropriate, targeted soft‑tissue work, and movement‑based techniques to restore normal mobility.
Communication If you need more or less pressure, or if anything feels uncomfortable, just say so. The session is guided by your feedback.
After the Session
How You May Feel Most people feel looser and more comfortable. Mild soreness can happen, especially if deeper work was needed — this is normal and usually settles within a day.
Hydration & Aftercare Drinking water afterwards can help. You may also be given simple movement or positioning advice to help reduce strain between sessions.
Follow‑Up If ongoing tension or pain is present, we’ll discuss what’s contributing to it and what the next steps should be.
Your Comfort Comes First
The aim of your first session is simple: to understand what’s causing your symptoms and begin reducing the mechanical strain behind them. You can see all our services on offer and choose what you think may suit you best.
